Resetting with Resolutions for Second Semester Author: Anya Thakkolkaran
As the days get chillier in January on the Foothill campus, the transition from first semester to second semester brings a sense of renewal. For many, "getting settled back in" means a second semester reset. Whatever obstacles we faced in the fall, this semester offers the opportunity to redefine our approach. After the four previous months of navigating workloads, students have learned how to game their classes. But, there's still room for growth, the most common theme being time management. While first semester felt like a frantic race to recover grades, second semester is the chance to work smarter, not harder. For many, this means prioritization. Abhee Shah [10] plans to be more intentional with his schedule. "I want to alter my study habits to give more time to the classes that need more time," Shah said. This resonates across all grade levels. Whether it's a challenging AP course or Freshman English, the goal is to move towards a more balanced studying routine. It's not just about the gradebook, however, it's about adjustment. Start trading late night crams for consistent rest, understanding that sleep will get you a better grade than ineffective cramming. Utilize Access to get homework done before you go home. Re-establish boundaries between school life and personal time so that your mental health stays intact. As we dive into the second semester, we do not need to focus on perfection. By learning from potential mistakes in the fall, Foothill students are heading into the rest of winter and spring ready to finish strong.
